BJC Auxiliary

The BJC Medical Center Auxiliary is our group of men and women who cheerfully volunteer their time and talents to make our facility a special place. Throughout the year, the Auxiliary sponsors many fund raising activities to help support the Employee Fund and the Nursing Facility Activities Fund. Just a few of the donations over the past years include automatic doors for the hospital and nursing facility, wheelchairs, curtains for ICU and the nursing facility units and defibrillators along with other medical equipment.

First organized in 1977, the Auxiliary group began by maintaining an information desk during visiting hours along with delivering mail, flowers and local newspapers. In 1979, the Wishing Well Gift Shop was opened with profits from the vending machines and donations from Mr. Jay and Dr. Hope. That same year, Haynie Porter, the first male volunteer joined the Auxiliary. Besides his work in the gift shop, he dressed as Santa Claus at Christmas and visited in the hospital and nursing home. In his memory, the Auxiliary offers the Haynie Porter Memorial Scholarship, which awards $1,000 each year to a student in the nursing program at Breanu University.

The main duties of the Auxiliary include operating the gift shop, escorting surgery patients, operating the information desk, deliver mail, and a host of many other tasks.

Live flower arrangements may be purchased at the Wishing Well Gift Shop during hours of operation. Special request orders may be placed by calling 706-335-1199.

There is always a need for more volunteers. If you are interested, please contact the Auxiliary at 706-335-1199. Volunteers must complete an application and background screening.
